Chatham leads the way for PortlandPawtucket PPDPortland W 9-2The Sea Dogs won their second game of the year on Tuesday, and did so in convincing fashion. Portland’s lineup jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth and were up by seven by the time the sixth was halfway over. It was a group effort in this one, with Chatham standing out to me. The shortstop is off to a strong start this season, already with six doubles over his first eight games while hitting .300/.371/.500. Chatham is 24 so the Red Sox would like to see him succeed early, and that’s exactly what’s happening. On the other side, Houck was solid and got good results, though the peripherals don’t suggest dominance or anything like that.Salem L 2-5It was a tough day for a Salem squad that has now lost four of their last five. The pitching was solid enough, with Thompson pitching a couple of innings that probably should have been worse based on the baserunners and lack of strikeouts, and former catcher Devon Fisher tossing a couple of scoreless innings. On offense, it was a very familiar game. Duran and Fitzgerald are the only two guys who have done much of anything for the High-A club to start this year, and they could both be on a fast track that sends them to Portland at some time relatively early in the year. Right now, they have OPS’s of .880 and 1.126, respectively.Greenville L 2-6Threes were wild for Scherff as he got off to a rough start that helped lead to the Drive losing their fifth game in their last six. The righty allowed all three of his runs right off the bat in the first inning that included a leadoff home run, a triple, two walks and a base hit. He was mostly solid after that, though he did allow a double in each of the next two innings and worked his way out of a bases loaded jam in the third. Overall, it was disappointing as Scherff had a bit of helium coming into the year and he dominated in his first outing of the season. Of course, this was just one outing and it can be good to see how young players come back from tough times.Player of the Day: Josh Tobias had the most hits of anyone on the day, but I’m giving this one to Chatham. He made up for having one fewer hit than Tobias by adding a walk to his total Marcell Ozuna Jersey , and he added more to the team’s result with two extra runs and two extra RBI. A former second round pick, Chatham no longer has the pressure of being the organization’s “shortstop of the future” with Xander Bogaerts locked up, but if he can continue to hit for contact he’ll find a job as a backup somewhere in this league even if the over-the-fence power never really develops. Diamondbacks Affiliates Took Three Out Of Five Games Played TodayDiamondbacks affiliates went three for five on the day, with Reno losing and Jackson splitting the double header.Pitcher Of The DaySam Lewis, Jackson Generals 4.0 scoreless innings pitched, four strike outs, one walk and four hits allowed. Hitter Of The DayAndy Young: 2-2 with home run and a walkReno Aces 3 Fresno Grizzlies 6Vinny Nittoli got the start and was roughed up for six runs, four earned, on seven hits and two walks in just three innings. The four earned runs came via long ball, with a two run homer in the first and third inning, and the unearned runs coming courtesy of errors by Abraham Almonte and Yasmany Tomas. Alex Young followed up with three scoreless inning, allowing just a hit and a walk, while striking out four. Robby Scott pitched an inning and a third scoreless innings, allowing a hit and two walks while striking out two. Travis Snider had a solid night despite going hitless by drawing three walks in the game. Caleb Joseph also reached twice with a walk and the only other hit of the night. Jackson Generals 1 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 2The Generals picked up where they left off in yesterday’s game with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but despite runners on base, they weren’t able to score any more runs in the inning, or the rest of the game. Instead of Bo Takahashi Miles Mikolas Jersey , Matt Peacock got the start, and though he was solid in five innings, he still was tagged with the loss due to a lack of run support. Peacock allowed two runs on six hits and a walk and struck out three. Tyler Mark allowed a hit and two walks in two scoreless innings. Bud Jeter replaced Tyler Mark, and pitched a scoreless inning, despite giving up two hits, two walks, and a wild pitch in the eighth inning. thanks to a well timed double play.Pavin Smith was hitless, but walked twice, and scored the lone run of the game in the first. Jeffrey Baez was 2-4, and knocked Smith in the first, while Ben Deluzio had the only other hit of the game.Jackson Generals 2 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 0The Generals rebounded with a seven inning shutout, with just enough offense to win it. Sam Lewis went four innings and allowed four hits and a walk, and struck out four. Ryan Atkinson pitched a perfect fifth inning, and struck out one. Kevin Ginkel pitched two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk, while striking out two. Andy Young was 2-2 with a walk and a solo homer to lead off the game yesterday. Cole Bartlett went three and a third innings as well http://www.stlouiscardinalsteamshop.com/authentic-marcell-ozuna-jersey , with three hits, allowed no walks or runs and struck out three. Junior Garcia went two and a third innings, and allowed two runs on three hits and a walk, and struck out four. Visalia’s offense combined for ten hits and five walks, with every Visalia batter getting at least one hit, except for Camden Duzenack who did reach base via walk. Ryan Grotjohn was 2-4 with a double, Anfernee Grier was 2-3 with a double and a walk. Mark Karaviotis and Luis Alejandro Basabe both tripled and walked. Kane County Cougars 4 Clinton Lumberkings 3Franklyn Soriano got the start for the Cougars, and pitched four and a third innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Soriano struggled with his command, issuing four walks and hitting a batter. Ethan Larrison struck out two intwo innings, and allowed a run on a hit and a walk. Chester Pimentel allowed two hits and two walks, while striking out two in two and a third scoreless innings to close out the game. Down 2-0 in the sixth, the Cougars would get a run across the board to make the score 2-1, but an Alex King home run with two on in the eighth is all the offense the Cougars would need to scratch out a win.Geraldo Perdomo went 2-4 with a double, scoring a run and knocking in the Cougars first run of the game. Tra Holmes was 2-3 with a walk and a stolen base. LT Tolbert was 2-3 with a walk.
